A home tutor is the most direct way to learn Chinese. The lesson is built entirely around one learner: your level, your goal, and the way you learn best. Nothing is shared with a group, so every one of the 45 minutes is yours. For many people in Abu Dhabi this is also simply the most practical option — the tutor travels to your home or work location, so there is no commute and no rearranging the rest of the day around a class.
We arrange home tutoring for three kinds of learner. Adults usually come to us for spoken Mandarin and practical communication skills — the language they need for work, for business relationships in China, or to hold a real conversation with confidence. High-school and university students come for structured support: keeping pace with a school Chinese syllabus, preparing for an exam, or building the foundation for university study. Younger children learn through age-appropriate, interactive lessons that keep a first language experience positive rather than pressured. In every case the teacher is a native or near-native Mandarin speaker with a recognised language-teaching qualification and real classroom experience.
What a home tutoring plan looks like
Before any lessons begin, our Principal Teacher speaks with you to understand the goal and agree the right level. If you are new to Mandarin you start at HSK 1, learning the sounds and tones of the language, pinyin (the pronunciation system) and your first practical phrases. If you have studied before, you are placed at the level that matches what you already know, so you neither repeat material nor start out of your depth. From there your tutor sets a plan across the total number of sessions in your course and works through it with you, lesson by lesson.
The official HSK scale runs from HSK 1 (absolute beginner) to HSK 6 (advanced). Working to it means your progress is measurable and portable: an HSK level means the same thing to a university admissions office or an employer as it does to us. Your tutor keeps the lessons aligned to that scale while keeping the content relevant to why you are learning — a professional preparing for meetings and a high-school student preparing for an exam follow the same standard by very different routes.
How it works
An adult learner, a high-school or university student, or a younger child — and what you want from Mandarin: HSK preparation, spoken confidence, school support, or a start from zero.
Your home tutor comes to your work location or home in Abu Dhabi at a weekly time that suits your schedule. The same slot is kept each week so lessons fit around work or school.
Every session is 45 minutes. You take one to three sessions a week depending on your goal and pace; intensive HSK preparation can run more.
Your tutor works to the official HSK levels, so your progress is measured against an internationally recognised standard rather than an in-house one.
What lessons cost
Home tutoring is priced on the total number of 45-minute sessions in your course and the fact that the teacher travels to you. There is no free trial: instead, our Principal Teacher agrees your plan and the price with you first, so your very first paid lesson is already tailored to you. Prices quoted to you are VAT-inclusive, and there are no hidden fees. If you would prefer a lower cost, the same curriculum is available online or as a small group class, and we are happy to talk through the trade-offs.
