Choosing a Chinese language school in the UAE
There are several ways to learn Chinese in the UAE, from large Dubai institutes to private tutors to online platforms. There is no single best option — the right choice depends on where you are, how you like to learn, and what you want the language for. This guide sets out the questions worth asking before you commit, so you can compare honestly.
We run a Chinese language academy ourselves, so we have a stake in your decision — but the criteria below are the ones we would tell a friend to use whether or not they chose us.
Where is it, and how will you actually attend?
Most established Chinese-language providers in the UAE are based in Dubai. If you live or work in Abu Dhabi, a Dubai classroom means a real commute — so either the school is close to you, or it teaches online well enough that location stops mattering. MOON Academy is based in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, and teaches online, in person, and through home tutors.
One-to-one, or a group?
Private lessons progress fastest and flex around you; groups cost less and add motivation. What matters is that you can choose, and that group sizes are capped so you still get attention. Ask what the maximum group size is before you enrol.
Is the curriculum tied to a recognised standard?
A course anchored to the official HSK levels (HSK 1 to HSK 6) gives you progress an employer or university can read, rather than a school’s own private scale. Ask which level a course targets and how placement is decided.
Is the pricing transparent — and is VAT included?
You should be able to find out exactly what a course costs and what that price covers before committing. At MOON Academy pricing is based on the total number of 45-minute sessions and the delivery format, agreed with you up front, and the prices you are quoted are VAT-inclusive with no hidden fees.
Who designs the course, and who teaches it?
Ask whether someone actually assesses your level and goal before lessons begin, or whether you are dropped into a generic syllabus. At MOON Academy the Principal Teacher speaks with every prospective student first and designs the plan; teachers are native or near-native Mandarin speakers with recognised language-teaching qualifications.
